I couldn't resist this one....

Apparently Patches, a blog with which I was not familiar until I went to Meno's site earlier today called for pictures of hands.

Someone I know did this a while back, too, although she is not a blogger. She is a photographer who is always looking for a new focus for her pictures.

I was intrigued. Would I be willing to put pictures of my old hands out on the Internet? For some reason, it felt even more revealing than putting a facial picture on this site.

Weird.

Hands can tell such a history. Where we've been. Where we are. What do those hands like to do? Garden?

Construction? A construction worker's hands do amazing things, even with all those calluses.

Hands. They hold things. Mine usually has a Diet Coke in it from 9.00 AM forward.

They also hold my pen when I am writing.

Wonderous little instruments we're born with...

We never really think about them. At least I don't. They're just there.

Another tool of the trade.

Interesting exercise. Thank you, Patches, for a clever idea.

Peace,

~Chani

  3. Your long nails, Chani!

    I'm jealous.

  4. Your pictures have context, something my own lacked, a lovely idea.

Your hands are nurturing, gentle and inquisitive. Hands say so much about our person. The inner and the outer. Thanks or posting!

  5. Oh Chani, they are wonderful! With the flowers and jewelry. . .like art. Makes me want to hold them.

  6. What great idea for a post.

I love that ring-is it Mother of Pearl?

  7. Flutter, thank you. :) I've always thought my hands are rather unattractive (not that I ponder such things endlessly, mind you :)...

Matt, please do give it a go. It's an interesting exercise.

As for the link, of course. I thought I'd linked you already since I do read you daily on Thailand Voice. I'll fix that right away.

Christine, thanks. :) Are you going to do it?

MsPea, yes.. I think it is mother of pearl. I bought it in Thailand at a night market. :)

  9. Your hands are lovely, Chani. I saw this on De's blog and liked hers, but didn't know it was a broader effort. How neat.

  10. Isn't it fun to see the different interpretations of this idea? I really like the context of the garden that your pictures have. I like all the bracelets too.

  11. You know I just might at that. . .

  12. You have wonderful hands, Chani. They remind me of my mom's.

  13. Jen, thanks. :) I have a weakness for the silver and gold bracelets and probably wear far too many. They are on both wrists and you'd probably laugh yourself half silly if you saw me on days like today in baggy shorts, a big t-shirt, bare feet and three pounds of jewelry. :) Geez, the neighbors probably talk about me behind my back. LOL When I do it right though with the clothing to match, it looks pretty good! I guess I'll keep doing it until my wrists break. LOL

Tried to get a close-up of the ring but my camera has crappy resolution. No matter what I do, it looks washed out.

Julie, I hope you will do it, too. It really was a clever idea... way beyond my creativity. :)

Meno, thanks. :) It was fun to fool around with the pictures. And some of the blooms in the yard are pretty right now so I wanted to include them.

Christine, cool! I'll look forward to them.

  18. You know, I thought the same thing when I included my hand in a post, not long ago. I thought, "my hands are old and showing age." What wonderful tools they are!

  19. QT, it's really kind of funny about the jewelry. Before I went to Thailand, I never touched the stuff. LOL

Mary, I was definitely concerned about that after seeing all the other pictures with young hands. Mine look pudgy and old.

Geez. We're all going in the same direction, jeh?

    :)

  20. I'm glad you picked this up. I really want to come hang around your garden with you.

  21. De, you would love it! You'd have your hands in the dirt before you realized it! For some reason, this garden grows that way, inviting us to dig in and plant something else. There's always room for one more flower or bush. :)

    Peace,
