"You're an interesting species, an interesting mix. You're capable of such beautiful dreams and such horrible nightmares. You feel so lost, so cut off, so alone, only you're not. See, in all our searching, the only thing we've found that makes the emptiness bearable is each other."
"Contact" - movie 1997
~*
sometimes, it's lonely being with others, because we're unable to "connect" with the ones we're with. perhaps that's where we're going wrong? We're not recognizing that each being has a kernel of the divine, and that is our connection.
ReplyDeleteI love what SB said! I've been reading a lot about near death experiences, and one thing that always strikes me is that people who "come back from the other side" often say their experience elucidated the fact that every one of us has a sliver of the Great Light within us, and this is what connects us at the core.
ReplyDeleteI liked the, "beautiful dreams and such horrible nightmares," part. So true
ReplyDelete"I'm okay to go!"
ReplyDeleteI just watched that again recently! Such a good movie! Of course, Matthew McConnaughy isn't hard on the eyes either!
Love the picture. Yes we are capable of so much. Yet sometimes we forget.
ReplyDeleteI love that last part.
ReplyDeleteThat photo is gorgious!!!!
ReplyDeleteTrue.
ReplyDeleteI love that movie and had totally forgotten about it! Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeletethese days I am feeling very alone, not with my children, but with my husband.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand. I loved that movie.
Loved the movie. And yes, we are an interesting species, full of contradictions. We could be really great if we would stop obstructing our own progress.
ReplyDeleteThat is so beautiful! I am going to have to rent that movie and watch it again! Hope all is well with you! M
ReplyDeletei absolutely loved that movie. thanks for reminding me of it.
ReplyDeleteAn all time favorite movie: the ending scenes totally validated my understanding of reality.
ReplyDeleteAnd ya know, they should've sent a poet. Ellie Arroway was right. (wink)
Three such beautiful and gentle posts.
ReplyDeleteI thought about what you said in your comment - I always had other people looking after me. It is only recently - after beating a drug addiction with which I almost killed me - that I started becoming looking out for myself. After all the things I put myself through when I was younger, I always feel a bit of fear going into a stressful period - will I make it this time?
I love that movie... but you picked the best part :) :)
ReplyDeleteHope you are well today.
you know, i've always loved, loved, loved that movie.
ReplyDeleteRunning on empty
We all need to remember those words. Very true.
ReplyDeleteThis movie touched me on so many levels.
ReplyDeleteIt actually helped me have "faith".
Much love to you, Happy EAster.
xo
I actually remember that quote from when I saw the movie years ago. Thanks. :)
ReplyDeleteContact and touch are so important. Without it, I know that I become cranky and isolate myself. The more I stand alone the more miserable I get, the more no one wants to be around me. With touch and love, I am as warm and friendly as a golden retriver puppy!
