Money, money, money, money, money....

I got to thinking this morning about what it would be like to be where there is not the fire-truck brain-hosing by advertisements at every turn of the eye and ear. Most of the ads I've seen so far today all involve something we absolutely must have so we can be what we must be. At risk of being a social pariah, we must spend, spend, spend and work, work, work so we can spend, spend, spend more money, money, money, money! Blecht! I'm sick of it!

When thinking so much in terms of money and commodities, it becomes a staple of the mental diet. Huge volumes of the brain just cease speaking to each other, the eyes grow glassy with myopic greed, the teeth start to hang over the lower lip, the nose extends, drool appears at the corners of the mouth, and the victim begins to spout stock quotations. One antidote is the reading of the works of George Ade.

Communicating with others will be as follows:

"How are you George?"
"I'm profitable."

"My wife is in an on-sale position."

"The ledger sheet of my mind was audited by my psychiatrist and he found that I had embezzled thoughts from my childhood and suggested that I do a leveraged buy-out of my subsidiary fantasies."

Prosperously,

I'm so tired of the ads too. What bothers me most is that I know their insipid uninspired little messages are niggling their way into my brain.

I'm not a big fan of ads, generally, although there are some occasional ads that are more entertaining than the TV drivel that they interrupt.

I have learned to tune them all out fairly effectively. We'll be watching TV and the Mister will say, did you see that ad about the _____"
"huh?" i answer.

But i swear, they are growing such that they are everywhere. Next i expect ads on the pull off strips of my sanitary napkins.

I rarely watch television because most of the ads are so annoying (of course, so are a lot of the shows). There are a few I find pretty enjoyable though, like the talking gecko ads. For some reason I get a kick out of those.

Besides the fact that a good percentage of the ads we see insult our intelegence, the cost of producing them makes the majority of products they're trying to sell too costly for the average person to buy.
I have to agree with The Atavist and Laurie, however, that some are quite entertaining and even funny. As for the others...zzzzzzzzzzz!
