Anne, Diana, Murilla, Matthew and Miss Stacey....

This is one of my favorite childhood books. For some reason, I could read it for hours and hours, escaping into the world of Anne, Diana, Murilla, Matthew and Miss Stacey.

This afternoon, the local PBS station has been showing the series, one episode after another.

I've sat here transfixed, hour after hour, watching each one.

What was your favorite childhood story?

Peace,

~Chani

Oh, I love Anne too! I'd be the same, just watching it through the afternoon. It's like a wonderful alternate world.

Oh! the Velveteen Rabbit, I looove that book. The tailor from Gloucester was a favorite of mine and the Cat in the hat wich my mom would read to me every night.(Chani, I watched Anne of Green Gables so often, I wore the videotape down to a shredded pulp. I'm hardly exaggerating...)Have a great day!

I loved Dr Seus. When I started reading on my own, though, I loved all the 'Ramona' books by Beverly Cleary and my second favorite were books by Judy Blume.

These are great stories, and the series was quite wonderful except for the very last one set in WWI. We have watched them any number of times. We've been to the house in PEI. AS for what I read as a kid -- The Bobbsey Twins were the start of it all, then the Hardy Boys and so on.

My favorite childhood book was Frederick by Leo Lionni. I guess it was a lot of people's favorite- the post office put it on a stamp last year.

Doctor Seus was always my favorite. My son loved them too, but his favorite book as a small child was "Goodnight Moon". In fact, I read it to him so much that his first word was moon.

How I loved Anne, and anything by LM. Also, I was a major Laura Ingalls Wilder fan. Ah, memories. Thanks for the evocation!

From the Mixed-Up Files of Basil E. Frankenweiler, E.L. Konigsburg.

Harriet the Spy (and The Long Secret), Louise Fitzhugh

Charlotte's Web, do I even have to say it's E.B. White?

The Secret Garden, Frances Hodgson Burnett

I loved Anne, because I'm an Anne too. There are always so many good books to read, and more coming out every minute. It's hard to keep up.
