I'm not a big TV watcher but there are some shows I like. Each week, I do watch "Bones" and "House". Those are the two shows that even my housemates know are not interruptible. With all the drama around this house, I actually have to assert that. :)
Tonight, I sat down to watch American Idol. It's relaxing to sit and watch them sing and I usually get a chuckle or two from Simon's snide mouth. He is one of the most negative people I've ever heard but he can be funny at the same time.
Tonight's show featured Bon Jovi songs. I'm not a Bon Jovi fan. In fact, rock music is just plain wretched. Seriously can't stand it. It sometimes concerns me that it all sounds like noise. I can remember my parents saying something similar when I used to listen to the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. "Turn that crap off!" The only thing worse than rock music is rap. Maybe I'm getting old. If I start complaining about "those damn young'uns", please, someone take me out and shoot me.
LaKisha Jones can make any song sound good though. That woman has a voice! The song she sang is unfamiliar but she carried it off very well. It's also nice to see a plus-sized woman who looks like an everyday person do so well. The only suggestion I would make is that someone tell her that heavyset people should not wear horizontal stripes. Please! As a heavyset person, I can attest to this. It makes her look bigger than she is.
Melinda also did really well. She is obviously practiced and polished. Her sweet nature is appealing as well.
For some reason, I'm not impressed with any of the men. None of them have chosen songs that impress me and none of them are particularly noteworthy. It's hard to remember who they are from week to week.
If I had to make a wild guess though, I believe the one to win will be Jordin Sparks. For such a young person, she seems confident, polished, at ease with the audience and she chooses good songs. She's versatile. She comes across very well.
At least that's who I would pick... if I was a pickin' sort of person at any rate.
How about you?
Peace,
~Chani

I'm not a big fan of rock either, but I thought the kids did really well last night. I have thought that the final three will be Melinda, Jordin and Blake, but after last night, I'm not so sure.
I must add that Hugh Laurie (Dr. House) is, IMHO, totally sexy. Though it worries me a little that I find such a grumpy, embittered soul sexy.
And I fear for Jordin tonight. Because for the first time last night, she was completely off-key. I think the noisome quality of Bon Jovi's music really got to her.
I'm a Melinda fan all the way.
I'm not a big Bon Jovi fan either. I like some rock but I can't say I have any rock cds in my stereo at the moment. I've caught myself saying,"when I was your age," a few times to my nephews. NOOO!
I like American Idol- I seeing how they progress every week. I could do without the judges but it's ok. Right now Lost is my favorite show-primarily because I used to lay out on the same beach it's being filmed so it makes me happy to see Hawaii once a week.
I like seeing how they progress every week--I'm such a bad typist...
I've been an American Idol fan for three years. I love the show. It's the only TV I enjoy and I make plans to sit and be entertained. Simon is a hit with me.
Somehow, this year, I don't have a stand-out favorite as I did previous years.
I don't care for the men except I totally enjoyed Blake's version of Bon Jovi last night!
Melinda, Jordin, Lakesha have it. My prediction is that the last two standing will be Melinda and Jordin. Jordin had her first bad night. But who knows? We'll see tonight.
Chani - I have no TV reception at my house, so I don't watch any televison. Various elements about where I live (in a valley with stone & trees blocking the signal) also make it pretty impractical for me to have a satellite dish.
I don't think TV is evil, I just don't have it. It is funny, I get left out of a LOT of conversations!
Before I met Flip, I owned a TV that was kept in a back room, covered with a quilt and supporting a lamp. I'm sure he married me for my TV, which was working, as it turned out.
He's corrupted me, to a point.
I have never watched American Idol or House, though there are a handful of other shows I like.
I used to think LaKisha had it sewn up. Now I think it's a Jordin-Melinda race.
I frankly think Melinda is better, but just by age and experience. I think she's got a decade in age on Jordin, and has been singing professionally for at least half that.
In my mind, though, they are the finalists. LaKisha has made some poor choices, as talented as she is.
The men this time were nothing compared.
I like Bones and House too. I added Raines in to my lineup. It's getting tricky, now. But Raines is a very quirky Jeff Goldblum show. It's a mystery one, but wow, so much better than the others.
