Surfacing....

It's been a peaceful weekend here. I slept a lot, read a lot, watched old movies on TV, took a few long walks.

I haven't been present in Blogland.

This is the first weekend I've ever skipped posting since I started this almost a year ago.

I'm feeling decidedly uninspired to write about anything much.

Only a few things have caught my attention.

This morning I was perusing the paper and saw an ad for Target. They were promoting work-out suits for little girls with the words "delicious" and "sweet" plastered across the rear end.

That nearly made me heave!

Can you imagine? Am I the only one who thinks that's just plain sick?

Back to Law and Order. Hope everyone is doing well.

I'm totally in agreement re the ass words. ;)

Like people need anything written on their butt!

I've been a busy busy girl while you've been snorkeling around down there.. I made a new title bar which took me ages but I'm thrilled with it :)

We all need a peace time break now and then. :)

anything written on my daughter's hind end would be awful! i have such a hard time finding clothes that aren't slutty for her and she is 6! target actually has low cost clothes, but the price is the slut-factor. what ever happened to sun dresses and jumpers. yeah, i am so old fashioned.

Glad you had a good weekend..

Anything written on the butt is just a big NO, NO for me...

Disgusting, the words, not in and of themselves but as labels on a little girl's butt (no! bottom!).

Another reason I'm glad I don't have girls...

If I had to put a label on my son's butt, I am pretty sure I could come up with some more appropriate adjectives... Probably "PAIN IN THE"

there you are. glad you had a peaceful weekend.

and yes, i think those clothes are bizarre and a bit terrifying. not something M will ever have emblazended on her bum (until she's of course, old enough to do her own thing)

What Flutter said.

totally!

I really do not understand the marketing. I like the tongue in cheek stuff, old rocknoroll thirts etc for children, or some nice glitter, a rainbow a unicorn.

My point is they are kids for gods sakes. Let them be kids.

All that stuff just makes me feel a bit icky inside.

They wouldn't be in Target if someone wasn't buying them. The question is: who would buy this crap for their daughter??

As always the battle between sexuality and intelligence is waged among our children. It's sad.

Chani, Good to take a break sometimes. I am also catching up on my reading... Re: kids clothes: You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find things that aren't plastered with logos and words that one doesn't approve of for small people. I still hold up my end of the commitment to go logo/word free, but what really concerns me is that these clothes are marketed heavily in stores where children of lower income end up wearing them for lack of options. It's insane that parents end up spending more money to buy plain clothes.

I don't like the sassy sexed up kids stuff. Won't do it.

I even cringe when I see "Juicy" on the butt of someone who wears adult-size clothes.

Why not just write in fancy script with sequins, "Pedophiles, LOOK!!!"

I also miss little smocked dresses, pinafores, and overalls on children.

I began seeing them sexualized by clothing in the 70's when some of my daughter's friends wore little outfits exactly like their swinging moms did, and the children seemed sexually charged, like they knew what was going on. I was perplexed and uncomfortable.

With role models like Lindsay, Britney and Paris, we'll continue to see little girls dressed like porn stars until parents figure out that it's not cute, but dangerous.

You can kind of understand how pedophiles get confused over what's appropriate and what isn't. The line is getting pretty blurry.

Oh for the days of decent clothing! I had a fit when my 17 year old was little because they were actually making little girl's clothes in BLACK (gasp, horror)--thank God I don't have to dress a little girl now...
It is so sad to me that parents see their children as "sexy" and choose to advertise it on their clothing...

AND there's all the t-shirts with obnoxious sayings on them. I of course can't think of any now but the gist of them is, "I am a rotten kid, parents suck, look what I got away with, aren't they stupid?" I hate those t-shirts.

Yes, that IS sick. On many levels.

I've been uninspired too. Its been mainly chit chat and this-n-that on my blog for two weeks. I don't like that. Where did my muse go?
