Today, while the blossoms roasted on the vine....

Anyone who can figure out the musical reference in the title is too old to be up this late. :)

Anyway, today....

Since I am a bad, bad girl and didn't hear the FedEx delivery person when he or she came knockin', I had to drive (yes... me... drive!) all the way to Rancho Cordova to pick up the package.

I do not like driving. There are a few different reasons for this:

The first one is a health condition which makes it very, very hard for me to perceive things correctly, particularly when there are too many things ~ and they are all moving too fast.

This particular trip (in D's car, I might add) was 14 miles each way on freeways.

Well, you can imagine...

The second reason I don't like to drive is that my depth perception is worthless. I can end up tailgating without realizing I am doing it.

As you can imagine, 28 miles round trip was a bit taxing.

When I got to the FedEx pickup place, it was crowded and I had to stand in a line for too long. When I stand too long, I begin to get dizzy. Next step: disoriented.

This IS supposed to be funny. I'm not whining, although it probably appears that way.

Finally, I got home with my FedEx package in hand, feeling like I'd been out in a war zone. In the package is a new credit card. The credit card is not for random purchases. It is for one thing only... travel money to get to Thailand. It is now hidden in my safe where it will remain until it comes time to purchase a plane ticket.

Just the same, being "out in the world" that long is too much for me. By the time I got home, all I wanted to do is curl up in a ball on the couch and block everything out.

I will answer comments tomorrow morning. I'm sorry to say that I am truly spent, beyond anything most would understand.

But I have one question before I stop typing: I agree with Cecileaux who wisely said in yesterday's comments, "Turn off the TV." That will likely be the route I take.

I've always liked radio, particularly talk radio. I'm thinking about subscribing to satellite radio. Does anyone have it? What do you think of it?

Be back tomorrow.. hopefully a bit more serene.

:)

I have XM and I like it. I don't listen to a lot of talk radio but my husband does and he loves it for his 30 minute commute. I heard that XM and Sirius were trying to merge but there's been talk about that for years.

I have bad depth perception too which is strange because I have excellent eyesight. I have a hard time parking because of it but I'm getting better...my height doesn't help much either but I do my best:O)

Have a good rest.

I have never understood people who keep a TV on all the time as background noise or company. I prefer music or silence.

I'm glad you got home safely. It does sound like a difficult expedition.

Get some rest now, and check back tomorrow.

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
Ill taste your strawberries, Ill drink your sweet wine

Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today

A card for your trip to Thailand. That is worth the drive, I must say.

Your plan to go home is getting near, yes?

I'm with heartsinsanfrancisco on this one - Music. :) While I'm here at the computer, 99% of the time I have music on. I have a huge playlist with over 560 songs on it, but I tend to group them together into little bunches of my favourites and seek those little groups out.

There's no one kind of music on there, it's everything from heavy metal (eg Marilyn Manson, Metallica) to rock (eg Guns and Roses, INXS, Bon Jovi) to pop (eg Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys) to all my older favourites - Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, U2, Cyndi Lauper (time after time is one of my all time favourite songs), Dire Straits, Nirvana, Coldplay, Oasis, Madonna, TATU, A-ha.. hmm, I could go on. :) Or I could just make a HTML version of my playlist and put it on my webspace sometime.

As I type this, Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits is playing - and I'm singing along - this song I find is haunting me lately. It says a lot about Dire Straits that all these years later their music still haunts me.

Now I'm going to tell you a little secret that I learned once. You can borrow CD's from most libraries. Plus, there is streaming music available on the internet, if you have a broadband connection. But I don't use that so I'm not sure how to use it.

I do understand this post a bit better than I'd usually let on - in particular the depth perception and things moving too fast bit. I get vertigo very easily when driving around here. There's a lot of roads on the sides of big hills with a drop off down to the sea on the other side. Usually if possible the other half drives, because of that. Or I go miles out of my way in order to avoid those roads.

I struggle with vertigo on stairs and escalators, too. It's a major big deal for me. I always wanted to be a pilot but it's simply not possible for me due to my terrible middle ears and vertigo.

Dizziness, if I get a middle ear infection you'll find me hanging on to the walls in order to walk from room to room. I don't joke. If I stand up without anything to hang onto, I tend to fall right over. I can be lying still and the room will be spinning around me - I know it sounds crazy.

So while it's supposed to be funny (and I know you weren't whining) this post hit a bit close to home here. ;) I know I should just get the ear operation and get most of it fixed but I'm chicken. ;)

These things you speak of happen a lot to general aviation pilots, did you know that? Dizziness from being in one position (sitting) for too long which causes spatial disorientation (this condition is not helped by a lack of oxygen at higher altitudes) is a major killer, causing pilots to spiral out of the sky until they hit the ground. They can't recover from the spin because they are so disorientated.

In fact some pilots have great trouble flying on instruments because of that too many things moving too fast thing.

Hey, it's that John Denver song. I think it's called "Today". One of my favourites.

Oooh, I hate talk radio. Give me music or give me silence.
Snoskred-disoriented pilots??? I may never fly again.

Wow, what a strain that must have been. I bet you did better on the way home since you knew why you had gone all the way - the key to your home, sounds like music?

Too bad you missed the delivery! I guess your dog doesn't bark as ferociously as mine. I can understand why you were anxious to get the card and have it safe in hand. That must feel good.

I have Sirius satellite radio in my car. I like it a lot, but I confess I listen to music, not news.

MsPea, I wish there was a way I could test out satellite radio.. to make sure I like it before making any kind of commitment to the equipment or the monthly expense.

Depth perception.. it seems that some people have it and others don't. I have no idea why that is... :)

~*

Flutter, oh yes... absolutely! :)

~*

Susan, I admit to being not much of a music fan. It is so distracting. Tuning out talk isn't quite so difficult.

Often, I prefer silence, too.

It will be a long while before I make a trip like that again! :)

~*

Jen, yes.. that part did feel incredible! Just knowing the card is there.. and I can always get to Thailand.. at the very minimum.

~*

CM, when I was a kid, the song was by the New Christie Minstrels. I'm sure there are some later versions, too. It's such a pretty song!

~*

Mitzh, there are a few different factors but once I'm able, oh yes! I will be there as soon as possible.

I miss it. Every day.

~*

Snos, I admit that if I listened to those things, I'd be climbing the walls! LOL

When I do listen to music, I like classics, instrumentals, easy listening and, of course, mor lam.

~*

River, I wasn't familiar with the JOhn Denver version.. but I love his music!

~*

DesertPea, yes.. getting back was easier. I will admit to having to resist some temptation to go to the airport, call D to tell her where her car is.. and just leave.. right then!

I kept thinking.. in just twenty hours.. I could be home! Oh!

~*

De, my dog is a yapper.. and she was in the back part of the house. She probably never heard it either.. and even then it's questionable as to whether she'd make the effort to bark. LOL

Peace,

I would imagine that card was worth the drive, though!

Yay for the card! One step closer.

yep, turn off the tv...better yet, donate it away. I don't have one and am always amazed at the people who say "but what DO you DO?" and I look at them and say "what do you DO? How do you find time for other things with TV?". Less media in your life = good thing. But of course, one must have some radio to keep up with the news when one wants to.

thailandchani said...

Julie, yes.. I have the card! :) It's all moving forward.. even though it's kind of slow.

~*

Emily, let's just say I wish I'd heard the doorbell! LOL

~*

KC, absolutely :)

Wayfarer, that's the way I'm beginning to see it. I like to know what's going on but don't want to be bashed with the constant barrage of ugliness, especially video ugliness, either.
