President Obama...

President Barack Obama

I have lived long enough to see several major historic events. I watched the country fall apart and begin to heal when JFK was murdered. I watched the Civil Rights Movement. I watched the first human being land on the moon. I've watched political assassinations, the war in Vietnam, Kent State, the horror of the Cold War years. I have watched a culture begin to dig itself out of the quagmire of heartless bigotry.

Never, ever, did I think I would live long enough to see a Black progressive elected president.

He did it! He did it with integrity, honor, truthfulness and a commitment to a higher ideal.

Congratulations, President Obama!

The world feels like a safer place.

Oh, God yes!

My faith in my country is beginning to be restored already. I can feel the healing begin.

We have a great President for possibly the first time since Lincoln, and I am thrilled to be here to see it.

Congratulations, President Obama, and congratulations, America!

He's a good man. I hope he is able to lead the nation in the way he promises.

Chani, we not only watched those events and eras pass, we lived them.

Doesn't it, though.

My heart is dancing.

I don't know whether to laug or cry. Both I guess. My heart is filled to overflowing with hope.

Happy. Happy.

Time will tell what this man does with the office. I remain optimistic and hopeful.

At this point, I am mostly happy that our country would vote for change.

And I look forward to having a president who can speak eloquently and a V.P. with a beautiful smile, instead of a sneer. :-)

I still haven't fully wrapped my head around it. I am so happy and so proud and so grateful for Americans who have stood up for "dignity, honor, truthfullness and a commitment to a higher ideal."

I have always said that he does not completely embody all of my political views -- but I have always supported him because he is the right person for this time in America.

I still can't believe it! I am overcome with joy and hope. I wept like a baby last night and even woke up with tears in my eyes. Tonight all the volunteers I worked with for the past few weeks are gathering together to celebrate all that we did and plan what comes next for our small Florida town. I'm going to ask that we try to get some new ideas of how we can reach out to all who voted red so that we can find a common ground so that our community can unite and work together. But for now, I look forward most to our celebration. We did it! We turned Florida blue for Obama!

On top of everything that you and others have said here, I feel that the way he ran his campaign...with dignity and honor...was refreshing and bodes well for the way we can expect him to serve in office.

He seems like such a just man. Is it wrong of me to put my trust in him so early?

Call me petty but I always cringe at everyone who call Obama "black". For heaven's sake, his mother is white - so he is as much white as he is black.

He will have his hands full. I believe he is bright enough to surround himself with just the right people to help him save our country!

A great post. I was there at Kent State.

Barack Obama's presidential campaign has been knocked off balance after the Democratic White House frontrunner was caught on tape apparently belittling the fears of small-town Americans who have lost their jobs..
