The Poster Boy for Arrogance...

~*

So how about this Blagojevich business? Can you believe it?

I just heard that he is refusing to step down as governor.

Given the tapes and the other evidence against him, he should have the sense to step down until he is either proven innocent or convicted. This tells me he has no respect for the office, for the citizens of Illinois or for the nation in general. He has no respect for the office itself. If he had any integrity left at all, he would resign and lay low.

The tapes were particularly difficult to hear. Blagojevich spoke with such blatant greed, such blatant entitlement, such blatant vulgarity that I don't believe the issue of his character is up for debate. It's obvious.

As hard as it is sometimes to respect a position or an office, I believe anyone assuming the office is duty-bound to respect it. That is part of the glue that holds a society together and anyone in one of those positions has a higher expectation of good character than those who don't. Abuse of power is probably one of the highest crimes I can imagine. It is a betrayal of trust. Trust, as we all know, is hard won and easily lost.

Corruption in government is not particularly surprising. It happens everywhere, in every country, at every level. It would take a particular naivete that I do not possess to assume otherwise.

At the same time, I do believe that those who engage in corruption should be subject to harsh consequences for their betrayal. This crosses all political and ideological lines. A spy for our own country is just as bad as a spy for another country. There is no moral neutrality in deception and betrayal.

Just my opinion. :)

Peace,

I have to wonder if he is suffering the mental illness of mania. The symptoms include impulsive, grandiose & belligerent behavior; lack of judgment; deny anything is wrong with them; compromised ability to think clearly; questionable business transactions; abnormal social interaction; highly vocal altercations; impulsive high risk behavior.

I swear some of these politicians must think they are god.

Un-be-leave-a-bull!

He's the worst governor we've ever had in my lifetime . . . and for Illinois, that's saying something.

I agree with BE that he must be mentally ill in some way. He seems completely divorced from reality.

Yes! I was thinking he was mentally ill!

I wonder if he's just an antisocial personality, though.

I do think we need to address those kinds of problems, but they are definitely prosecutable, as opposed to a psychotic episode.....

Border Explorer may be onto something. The whole thing just disgusts and upsets me in a big way.

yup. that guy is a major douche.

What he did was treason with a twist; he didn't sell us out for another country, he sold us out for his own personal profit.

There does seem to be some underlying mental illness. Something about him seems a bit off. His appearance with the striking workers the day before the indictments had an inappropriate manic edge to it.

As a mental health prof. I have to agree with Border Explorer- he has all the hallmarks of someone in an active phase- with antisocial traits to boot! Tragic... for everyone!

His behavior smacks of pure mafia thuggery. And so he seems to be shocked that people are actually upset. Isn't this the way things are done? I guess I'm jaded and expect little better. I just hope it doesn't interfer with Obama's moving forward is all. Impeach the turd and throw him out!

I never thought I would say this but he makes Arnold Schwarzenegger look good.

We've reached a new low in state government.

I don't know about this one. I suffer a loss of news in December 'cause I only listen to Christmas music. (It's kinda interesting annually what i miss and don't miss in the larger world.) This might be one of them...that I don't miss!

Well, well, well, he is the governor of Chicago, right!

He is thinking he is not doing anything different from his predecessors. He did nothing wrong.
This is Chicago politics. Just another episode of Eliot Ness.

I never thought I'd be able to pronounce his name. And now I can. My bad.
