Stupid Girls...

Okay. On a lighter note ~ a much lighter note ~ has anyone else noticed the nearly incessant coverage of Anna Nicole Smith and her paternity troubles?

There are a few things that disturb me about this.

Anna Nicole Smith (as much as I hate to be unkind) has the brainpower of a box of hair. Has anyone ever heard her make an intelligent remark about anything? The most quotable quote I recall from her is "I don't watch the news. It's depressing." The only thing she has going for her is lots of platinum blonde hair and a bodacious set of tatas. She makes even Britney Spears and Paris Hilton look like Mensa candidates.

DUH!

While I am very sorry she her son, I don't see why we are exposed to this unfortunate woman at all. With further revelations about the drug use and decadent lifestyle of this woman, I don't see how additonal knowledge about her benefits us or why we are seeing the endless coverage on mainstream news channels. It isn't limited to the tabloids and "Entertainment Tonight". Maybe I'm just a tad old-fashioned but I can't wrap my head around these people as icons. They contribute absolutely nothing to culture.

I am not a rabid feminist but it is blatantly apparent that iconizing these "stupid girls" perpetuates the myth that women are playthings, should be mindless and cute and have no further ambition than to be a rich man's baby-mama. Like "Pink", I want to see the first woman president. I want to see a woman win the Nobel Prize for discovering a cure for AIDS. I want to see more women in positions of influence internationally.

No more stupid girls!

Re: your reply to my environmental blog...I agree with the who, but I think they understand just fine. They just don't give a s--- about the long range results. Or the generations that follow.

The more women that we get in to politics the better...and it is starting. Let's not give up hope.

Glad someone brought that up--I am sooooo sick of people getting famous just by being useless members of society who can't even piece together a complete sentence.....also that whole-"I'm so stupid... can we start up a tv show based solely on the purpose of letting everyone know how stupid am? Can my best friend be in it? She'll pretend to be stupid too. It'll be cute."

Well, how timely. I couldn't agree ith you more. And now we will have the first female Speaker of the House. Nancy Pelosi. I wish her well. The world and the voters will be watching.

Whooohooo! I'm loving that I don't want to be a stupid girl Pink tune! It scares me that we absorb all this crap and hardly even notice.

I hope you are not going to make a quick judgment about me, but I, also, don't watch the news because it's depressing ;).

There is a retired European athlete who became alcoholic and start to make “funny” statements, so stupid that someone thought of collecting them in a book. One of the most laughed at of these statements is “life is man’s best time”. All I can say is that “I cannot agree more” :)

What is my point? My point is we can learn from everyone even when they say “stupid” things. If her life style is not to our liking we don’t need to watch it on TV, let alone devoting a blog entry to her. I am just teasing you :-p

Great post TG. I loved the video and yes, we definitely need more intelligent women in leadership positions. Other countries have already figured out that women have what it takes. Hopefully, the times they are a changin'

Is that hope I see at the end of the tunnel?

You really grow on a person, you know that?

Holy cow, are those things real?

Daufiero, that's something I guess every mother has to do ~ up smack against pop culture. Yeesh. I'm glad I'm old.

Karla, thanks :)

Pam, it sure does!

Ginnie, I can't help but wonder if the neocons haven't taken us back 30 years. Can you imagine Anna Nicole in the 70s? Thank goodness, yes, we do have more women in positions of influence.

Mslittlepea, yeah.. it does irritate me that someone like Ms. Hilton, et. al., can spend her life doing absolutely nothing while honest, intelligent people struggle.

Mari and Princess, Absolutely! Go, Nancy! :)

Lucia, I was surprised by the Pink song. I wasn't familiar with her ~ but she's obviously a pretty bright woman!

Gobody, the most outrageous quote I can recall actually came from Mariah Carey. It was something like this, "When I watch TV and see those poor starving kids all over the world, I can't help but cry. I mean, I'd love to be skinny like that, but not with all those flies and death and stuff." I can't vouch for the veracity of it ~ but I read it somewhere.

Jen, *bravo* right back atcha! :)

Stephen, yes... I hope it's hope.. and not an oncoming train.

Meno, yeah.. I've been told that I grow on people.. kind of like a flesh-eating bacteria. :) Oh. Wait. It was my ex-husband who said that. Nevuhmind.

If those things are real.. well... call me Cleopatra and feed me grapes!

Thanks, everyone. :)

Peace,

right on sister.the problem with the news is its got to go on no matter if they have some thing worth putting on or not.and to be honest they mostly have nothing.when did having big hookers make you news worth anyway?this chic is a shame to herself and her son.the poor kid was inbarased alot by his so called mother.but one does have to feel sorry for someone who is so lacks in brains.

Mariah Carey must be completely out of touch with reality. It's sad that some people who can influence others a lot are like that.
